Frack Free Greater Manchester along with the Campaign Against Climate Change will be hosting the North West of England launch of the One Million Climate jobs report at 7:15PM on Tuesday 18th November at the Friends Meeting House on Mount Street

.

The report shows how tackling the threat of Climate Change by improving housing and public transport and investing in renewable energy can create one million new jobs.

The new version of the report contains a case study on Salford which shows that pursuing alternatives would create 14 times as many jobs as fracking (1.)

Speakers include Martin Empson from the Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group, Ian Hodson, President, of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), Sue Lloyd, NW Regional Green Officer, Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), Stephen Hall from the Leigh branch of UNITE (another sponsoring union) and Frack Free Greater Manchester.

In September over a thousand people marched through Manchester to demand the Labour Party ban fracking.(2.)

Greater Manchester said “The campaign at Barton Moss last winter appears to have driven the frackers out of Greater Manchester and there is no sign of them coming back soon. Now is the time to start looking for alternative ways of keeping the lights whilst getting the first city of the industrial revolution back to work.

“This report shows there is an alternative to both perpetual austerity and climate change pessimism and that a future of real jobs and a clean environment is not only possible, but very desirable.”
