Press Release: Frack Free Greater Manchester responds to Queen’s Speech proposals to allow fracking under people’s homes without consent

queens-speech-1_2214565bFrack Free Greater Manchester responds to plans due to be announced in the Queen’s Speech on Wednesday that fracking is to be allowed under people’s homes without their permission.

Martin Porter said “This is another admission by the government that they have lost the argument. Home owners will not be asked for permission because the government knows that it will not be given. However we believe that people will react to this change in the law with more direct action. If the government thinks it can take people’s rights without them reacting it is seriously mistaken. If it thinks a network of fortified fracking sites besieged by local residents and guarded by riot police is appropriate in a democracy it is seriously misguided.

It is frankly astonishing that in the week that the USA and China announced ground breaking new proposals to limits greenhouse gases, and on the day that the next round of climate talks begin in Bonn, that the government should be bringing in new laws to favour this unwanted, unnecessary and unsafe fossil fuel.
