Twelve months after protests began at the Barton Moss site in Salford, the centre of campaigning is now the other end of the Manchester Ship Canal at the IGas test site at Ellesmere Port. A Solidarity Sunday event is happening today and campaigners from Manchester will be travelling there on a coach organised by Reclaim the Power.

Three similar rallies were held at Barton Moss and attracted up to a thousand people.

Martin Porter of Frack Free Greater Manchester said “We are not NIMBYs, we are NIYBYs; we don’t want this in your back yard either.

“Amazingly, despite the nationwide opposition to fracking, there will not be a Party Leader represented at next years TV election debate prepared to say no to the oil and gas industry. Whilst the politicians continue to ignore the people there will be a need for rallies like this.”
